The LoomRoom Cross-Stitch Guide
Part 5 - Finishing

Finishing Your Embroidery

Once you've completed your embroidery, it's worth giving it a gentle refresh. During stitching, the fabric comes into contact with your hands, so it may pick up natural oils or light marks.

Soak the finished embroidery in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent. Do not scrub the stitching or wring out the fabric. After rinsing, lay the embroidery flat on a clean towel and allow it to air dry.

Once the embroidery is dry, press it with an iron. You can iron either the front or the back of the embroidery, optionally placing a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric. Steam may be used, but always check first that your embroidery floss is colourfast.

Your finished embroidery can be framed, displayed in an embroidery hoop, sewn into a cushion, cosmetic pouch or tote bag or incorporated into a larger textile project.

Congratulations!
