Embroidery

Embroidery is one of the most beautiful and widely recognized techniques for decorating textiles.

For centuries, it has served not only as an embellishment for clothing and household linens, but also as a means of expressing regional identity, tradition and craftsmanship. Each region developed its own distinctive motifs, colour palettes and stitching techniques, passed down from one generation to the next.

At LoomRoom, traditional cross-stitch embroidery is more than a craft — it is a way of preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of the Podlasie region.

We draw inspiration from traditional patterns found on historic textiles and elements of folk costume. We document these designs, carefully reconstruct them and adapt them so they can live on in new creative projects.

We also offer cross-stitch embroidery workshops, where participants learn the fundamental techniques while discovering the history and symbolism behind traditional folk patterns.

Our current workshops are available in our online shop via the link below.

A Brief History of Cross-Stitch Embroidery

Cross-stitch embroidery holds a special place in the Polish folk tradition.

Created from small X-shaped stitches worked on fabric, it allows both simple geometric ornaments and remarkably intricate compositions to be formed.

Thanks to its precision and clearly structured design, cross-stitch remains one of the world's most popular embroidery techniques, appreciated by both beginners and experienced makers.

Here you will find a brief history of cross-stitch embroidery, with a particular focus on the traditional folk embroidery of the Podlasie region.

The LoomRoom Cross-Stitch Guide

The LoomRoom Cross-Stitch Guide will take you step by step through the basics of cross-stitch embroidery — from preparing your materials and making your very first stitch to finishing your completed project.

Whether you're just getting started or returning to embroidery after some time away, you're sure to find something helpful here.

Remember to work at your own pace. Embroidery is more than just a technique — it's a way to find calm, improve focus, and create something lasting with your own hands.

LoomRoom Patterns

LoomRoom patterns are inspired by traditional pick-up woven textiles. Their geometric compositions and rhythmic structure lend themselves naturally to cross-stitch embroidery.

As a result, designs rooted in the weaving tradition can be recreated by people who do not work on a loom but wish to create with needle and thread. It is a way of preserving traditional motifs while adapting them to contemporary forms of expression — whether in embroidery, ceramics, illustration, tattoo art, interior design or fashion.
