Weaving Weekend – Three-Day Multi-Shaft Weaving Workshop in Hajnówka (16–18 October 2026)

Join us for a three-day multi-shaft weaving workshop where you will discover how to create more complex woven structures and patterns.

The workshop takes place from Friday to Sunday. The loom will be prepared and warped in advance, so after a short theoretical introduction, you can start weaving straight away. Most of our time will be dedicated to hands-on practice, exploring the relationship between weave structure, colour and the appearance of the finished textile, and working independently on your chosen project.

During the workshop, you can create either a table runner or a piece of fabric for a decorative cushion cover. Depending on your chosen pattern, your working pace and the effect you would like to achieve, you will create your own unique and functional handwoven textile.

We will begin with an introduction to the construction of the loom, how the shafts work and the basic principles of multi-shaft weave structures. You will then learn how to operate the prepared loom, read and understand the pattern, control warp tension and maintain even edges while weaving.

Throughout the three days, you will work under the guidance of the instructor, who will support you at every stage – from choosing colours and planning your composition to finishing your work and taking the completed textile off the loom.

The workshop is suitable both for complete beginners and for participants who already have some weaving experience and would like to explore the more advanced possibilities offered by a multi-shaft loom.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who would like to spend a creative weekend at the loom and make their own functional textile with an individual pattern and colour palette.

What You Will Learn

During the workshop, you will learn:

• The basics of multi-shaft weaving,

• The construction of the loom and how it works,

• The relationship between warp threading, treadling sequences and the resulting woven pattern,

• How to select colours and materials,

• How to create different structures and rhythms within a woven textile,

• Techniques for weaving evenly and maintaining neat edges,

• How to remove and finish your completed textile.

What You Will Make

During the workshop, you will complete one project of your choice:

• A table runner for a table or sideboard or

• A piece of handwoven fabric for a decorative cushion cover.

You will take the finished textile off the loom, complete the finishing process and take your handwoven piece home with you.

The Workshop Fee Includes

• Your own prepared and pre-warped loom,

• All materials required to create your textile,

• Three days of hands-on work with guidance from the instructor,

• Assistance in choosing your pattern and colour palette,

• Your own handwoven textile to take home with you.

Accommodation and meals are not included and should be arranged individually by participants.

The workshop will be led by an experienced textile craftsperson who works with both embroidery and weaving and specialises in documenting, researching and creatively using traditional textile patterns from the Podlasie region.
